The path

[Five Levels]

A progression that carries you from your an early embrace to the subtlety of a milonguero — never rushed, always musical.

1

First steps

The embrace, the walk, the axis. Basic step, ochos and basic turns. Finding calm and connection.

2

Foundations

Types of ochos, initial figuras and the vocabulary of the social floor. How to move in the dancefloor. Walking technique.

3

Musicality

Intermediate figuras. Musicality and rhythm. Couple technique.

4

Expression

Combinatory possibilites. Dynamics, complex figuras in music and seeking a personal voice within tradition.

5

Milonguero

Advanced combinations. Refinement, improvisation and the depth of an elaborate embrace.

How you will learn

The method

We work on dance technique, musicality and theory - drawing on a living catalogue of more than 2000 figuras.

Our weekly courses run at levels 2 to 5 on a five-level path, alongside an open práctica where you practise and dance freely.

Beyond the weekly rhythm, we teach workshops and special classes on specific aspects of the dance, both in Europe and in Argentina.

We lay special emphasis on improvisation, musicality and social awareness. Our aim - developing real conversation on the floor.

Questions, answered

[Before you come]

I have never danced tango. Can I start with you?

Our weekly courses run at levels 2 to 5 and assume some tango behind you. A beginner course is coming, but it has no date yet. Write to us and we will tell you as soon as it does. In the meantime the open práctica is there for you: no course to join, no partner needed, and nobody minds where you are starting from.

Do I need to bring a partner?

The classes are danced in pairs, so a partner is needed. Coming alone is not a reason not to start: tell us your level, the day you can make, and whether you lead, follow or both, and we will do our best to match you. The weekly práctica needs no partner at all. More on finding a partner.

Which level should I join?

We teach on a five-level path, from first steps to milonguero. Tell us what you have danced so far and we will point you to the class that fits, ours or someone else's. See where you'd start.

How do I book a class?

By email, and booking is mandatory. Write to info@griseldanicolastango.com with your level and preferred day. We confirm your place and the current pack prices.

How much does it cost, and how do I pay?

There is a drop-in, a class pack for a full course at your level, couple passes for two dancers on one card, and private lessons. The current prices are in the passes shop. Online purchase is coming soon. Until then we take payments in person, at the studio.

Where and when are the classes?

At La Caminada Tanzstudio, Böckhstraße 21, 10967 Berlin (Kreuzberg). The current days, times and breaks are in the schedule above, which we keep up to date.

What language are the classes taught in?

English, and also German, Italian and Spanish. Mixed groups are normal here, and we switch as the room needs.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move in. For shoes, anything with a smooth sole that lets you pivot is fine to begin with; tango shoes can wait until you know you want them.
